- Complete the FAFSA. This may be done electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov or you may complete a paper FAFSA (Code for
NDSU = 002997). Be sure to read the deadline information!
- If a paper FAFSA is completed, mail the FAFSA in the envelope provided. DO NOT mail
your tax returns.
- The federal processor determines your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) based on the information
you provided on the FAFSA.
- If you completed a paper FAFSA, the federal processor prints and mails you a Student Aid Report
(SAR). If you completed the FAFSA electronically, you will receive an email regarding the status of your
FAFSA. The federal processor will electronically transmit your FAFSA information to NDSU.
- Review the SAR for accuracy. If correct, no action is required. If incorrect, and you have a paper
SAR, make corrections and mail back to the processor. If you applied electronically, your information can
be viewed and updated online.
- In early April, Award Notices for Pre-Freshmen will be mailed. In early June, Award Notices for all
other students will be mailed.
- Go online to accept/decline your award. Sign and return any enclosed forms requiring a
signature.
- NDSU will contact you by mail if you are selected for the Verification process, in which you will
have to submit tax information.
- Continue to check your mail for additional forms or possible changes to your financial aid.
